SIBU: SMK Methodist student Ngu Lih Bin is happy she has proved herself wrong in her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

She only expected to score “10A+ at best” but was pleasantly surprised she had done much better when the results were released yesterday.

She achieved an excellent 12A+ to become not only the pride of her school but also the best SPM student in the state.

Her exceptional result warmed the cockles of the heart of her parents – and so did that of her twin sister Lih Wen who scored an impressive 10A+ and 2A.

Lih Bin told reporters yesterday her result was a blessing from God.

A conscientious student who supplements her school work with tuition classes, Lih Bin who always starts her revision with a prayer, said: “I only expected  10A+ at best.

But 12A+ is really a surprise and I’m very happy. I have the blessings   of God and the support of my parents and teachers to thank for. I would not have been able to achieve such a good result on my own.”

The first to congratulate her was Lih Wen.

“I’m happy for Lih Bin. To be the top student is not easy. She deserves it and I’m proud of her,” she said.

Lih Wen is thankful to God for her own result – 10A+ and 2A.

Although a little disappointed with her result, Lih Wen said she accepted it as God planning a different path for her.

Meanwhile Lih Bin revealed both she and her twin sister were very active in co-curricular activities and as such, had never topped their term exams.

Both are state netball players and active in the Girls’ Brigade and other clubs.

“I think we managed our time well.  We had tuition in the afternoon, did our homework and revision at night and studied together.

“If I have a problem, I ask Lih Wen for help and vice versa. If both of us can’t do it, we ask our teachers or friends for help,” Lih Bin said, adding that as twin sisters, they did almost everything together.

She said they started making steady progress in their lessons from Forms 1 to 3.

Asked about her future plans, Lih Bin said she hoped to get a scholarship to enter medical school and specialise in paediatrics.

“I love children and hope to be a paediatrician one day. I like children to be happy and healthy,” Lih Bin added.

As for Lih Wen, her ambition is to be a dentist.

She said she would continue to study to make her dream come true.
