KUCHING: Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (MOA) will hold a ‘Charity Bicycle Ride 2013’ on June 8 to assist arthritis patients.
According to the organsing committee which was represented by orthopaedic surgeon specialist from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Dr Gunalan Nalliah, the funds raised will be used to assist patients who could not afford to buy implants to undergo total joint placement operation at SGH.
Speaking at a press conference to announce the event, Dr Guanlan said the event targets to collect about RM1.5 million and expects 1, 000 participants.
“The event is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) event which receives strong support from Normah Foundation chaired by Tan Sri Bujang Muhammad Nor,” he said, adding the funds will be chanelled to the foundation.
Earlier, Dr Gunalan together with other organising committee members paid a courtesy visit to Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, at her office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia.
Meanwhile, participation fee for the race is RM80 and participants will be given a jersey that has been specially designed.
Entry forms can be obtained from all prime hotels and selected bicycle shops in the city.
