SIBU: The head of a traffic policeman was nearly severed after his neck was caught by a dangling steel cable of a lamp post.
Corporal Samuel Adruce, 34, was heading for the Police Day Parade on his motorcycle at daybreak when the freak incident happened.

The moving motorcycle dragged Samuel for some 60 metres after his neck got entangled. By the time the motorcycle came to a halt, his neck was broken and nearly sliced off.

Samuel was already dead by the time an ambulance arrived.
Police are investigating whether the dangling cable was caused by a cable theft.
Before the incident, Samuel, who was posted here two years ago after serving in Sabah, and a colleague were heading to the police headquarters from their flats at the new Sungai Merah police station.
His colleague said he did see the cable but could not alert Samuel, who was riding in front, on time.
His colleague immediately called for an ambulance and alerted his office.
Sesco personnel arrived shortly thereafter to inspect the cable and the lamp posts.
They are wondering whether a cable theft had occurred to cause two lamp posts to fall down. The steel cable was holding the two lamp posts upright.
