KUALA LUMPUR: The police have launched a manhunt for 17 suspected members of the ‘Morning Glory’ armed robbery gang to facilitate investigations into a murder and a series of hold-ups.

Initial police investigations revealed they are linked to the murder of one of their accomplices over a fall-out in sharing loot amounting to RM1 million from the proceeds of several robberies in Brickfields and Cheras.

The victim, Chan Hong Sau, 31, was gunned down at close range by several men outside the Corus Hotel in Jalan Ampang last Thursday,

The deceased, an ordinary member of the gang, had four criminal records involving drug-related offences and car-jacking.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the police believed that Chan was gunned down by members of his own gang over a misunderstanding over sharing of loot from several robberies.

He said the modus operandi of the ski-mask wearing gang members was to break into luxury homes between 4am and 7am, rob the victims of their cash and valuables, and drive away their cars.

“We estimate that the gang’s loot from 18 robberies was about RM1 million,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Ku urged those with information on the killing and spate of armed robberies to contact the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, the police want to contact the following people to facilitate investigations into Chan’s murder and the 18 robberies.
