KABONG: Should Barisan Nasional (BN) decide to field a new candidate to defend Saratok seat in the coming 13th general election, several grassroots leaders suggest that the best person to take the baton from incumbent Jelaing Mersat is Enturan Luta.

Bujang Mahsen, 72, who was among a group of 65 Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) members led by Ismail Hussain to quit the party
on Feb 28 to join Sarawak
Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), said Enturan who is chairman of ‘We Love PM Club’ and Poverty Eradication and Human Resources Development Association should be given the chance as he is well-liked by the locals.

Tuai Rumah Nuing Irek, 40, in concurring with Bujang, said Enturan is not only well educated but a local man who knows the needs and problems of his people.

Besides, he is still young, friendly and easy to mix with, Nuing said.

A Parti Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) member from Kampung Gerigat, Abang Masron Abang Resdi, 53, said he had no problem in giving Enturan his support if he were to be picked by BN to replace the incumbent.

“To me, he is a person with the people’s heart who always makes it a point to avail himself whenever he is needed,” he pointed out.

Rambey Ijoi from Kelua Melupa, Saratok and Damba Upai, 42 from Rumah Tanjung Perpat near here shared similar views.

“Given the present political scenario here, only a person who is well-liked by the voters can win. This is evidenced by the unexpected victory of PKR’s Ali Biju over SPDP deputy president Datuk Peter Nyarok in the last state election,” they said.

“We believe Enturan has the quality to match the opposition and with the popularity of the transformation programme introduced by the prime minister, Enturan is BN’s best bet to defend Saratok,” they added.
