Miri dengue cases down

MIRI: The number of dengue cases here has been slashed significantly, freeing the city from topping the list of hotspots for the disease.

Miri divisional health officer Dr Faizul Mansoor said this is due to greater awareness, regular monitoring by the health authority and good cooperation from the people.

“The situation is under control and there are no more hotspots and no outbreak. All clear,” he told The Borneo Post recently.

Nonetheless, he said, the public must not take things for granted.

He advised them to keep their compounds and premises clean at all times to prevent Aedes mosquitoes from breeding.

Previous dengue hotspots here were Taman Tunku, Pujut Corner, Krokop and Pujut Padang Kerbau.

Dr Faizul added that this is probably because they are the most densely populated areas.
