KUCHING: The open attitude of the people of Sarawak has helped a lot to facilitate efforts to implement development in the state, said Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, here, last night.

He said, through such attitude, he had received solid support to implement his politics of development when taking over the reign 32 years ago.

In an interview on the programme ‘Bicara Rakyat’ which was aired live by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) from here, he said the spirit of cooperation and unity among the multi-racial residents in the state, was always stressed upon to ensure no one was left behind in enjoying the development in the state.

“This (unity among the numerous races) is one benefit for me. One factor which resulted in my success (to formulate the development plan for Sarawak) much easier than I expected at the beginning (when I became Chief Minister),” he said.

According to Taib, his early development focus was to ensure all residents of Sarawak could be linked even through a road infrastructure which was not up to par. — Bernama
