Sng: Sarawak Workers Party can win at least 3 seats

KUCHING: Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) is confident of winning at least Lubok Antu, Julau and Selangau in the impending 13th general election.

The party is also eyeing Kanowit, Hulu Rajang and Sri Aman. All these six seats belong to PRS, a BN component party.

SWP president Larry Sng said their confidence was based on their membership drive and pulses on the ground.

“The chance for us to win other seats is also equally good,” Sng told reporters after donating RM30,000 to Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia (CWS) here yesterday.

SWP, which claimed to be BN friendly, has thus far only unveiled its candidates for Julau and Hulu Rajang.

For Julau, they will field Meluan assemblyman Wong Judat while for Hulu Rajang it will be Pelagus assemblyman George Lagong.

Julau is presently helmed by Deputy Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, while Datuk Billy Abit Joo is Hulu Rajang MP.

But PRS announced a long time ago that Abit would be dropped in favour of Wilson Ugak Kumbong.

Asked about the recent statement from PRS that the party would make sure that SWP would end the impending polls empty handed, Sng replied, “I think we wait and see. We (SWP) are all set to face the battle”.
