KOTA KINABALU: The dissolution of parliament announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday signaled the beginning of a new chapter in the continuation of Barisan Nasional’s commitment to bring about development and transformation in the country.

Puteri Umno chief Datuk Rosnah Abd Rashid Shirlin said the soon-to-be-held 13th general election would be the most important yet as it would determine the direction of the country in the next five years.

“This is not the time to experiment. This is the time to decide where we want our country to be. My advice to the people is to chose wisely, not emotionally,” she said in welcoming Najib’s announcement.

Rosnah, who is the member of parliament for Papar, stressed that BN was fully prepared to face the election and she believed the voters would judge the coalition based on its excellent performance and not be influenced by the opposition’s empty promises, wild accusations and lies.

She said Puteri Umno was all geared up to assist the BN retain power and continue its strategic plan to propel the country forward and elevate the socio-economy of the people.

“Puteri Umno at state and federal levels, have always been ready to further strengthen BN’s election machinery, including here in Sabah. The opposition on the other hand, seem to be unable to agree with one another in every aspect, even in deciding their candidates for the election. This is a good sign for us,” she said, expressing confidence of a comfortable victory for BN.

As for herself, Rosnah said she was ready to give all she can to retain her seat for BN, should the leadership decide to field her again.

“Even if I am not chosen, I will continue to give my unwavering support to BN and work hard to help ensure victory for all BN candidates.

“We are struggling not for ourselves but for the people and our party,” she added.

Meanwhile, Sabah Wanita Umno assistant secretary Datuk Jainab Ahmad said the timing of the announcement was right, likening it to a woman in labour wanting to give birth but has to wait for her water to finally break before deciding it is time to get the midwife.

The Karambunai incumbent assemblywoman said Wanita Umno Sepanggar under her lead, and the state Wanita as a whole, were all ready for the election.

She added it was time for the people in the state to show to the opposition that they are not easily fooled by their rhetoric.

“I believe the people in Sabah are matured and know what is the right choice for them. So we will leave it to them to decide,” she said.
