KUCHING: A bank clerk jumped out of her car to escape two carjackers who took her on a terror ride from Batu Kawah to Hui Sing Garden on Thursday night.

The incident occurred around 9pm when the 20-something victim, who had planned to go to Kota Samarahan, stopped her Perodua Viva next to a bus stop at the Batu Kawah New Township to reply to a text message from her sister on her cell phone.

At that juncture, a second Viva with three unknown men inside pulled up next to her, with two of them subsequently forcing their way into her vehicle after threatening her with a machete and a wooden club.

With the bank clerk in the front passenger seat, the duo and their accomplice sped off towards the Mile 3 roundabout, where they collided into two other cars before continuing towards Hui Sing Garden.

As they approached the Hui Sing roundabout, the carjackers slowed down the Viva due to the traffic in front of them, prompting the victim to open her door and jump out of her vehicle and onto the road.

Disregarding the woman’s action, the suspects drove off towards the BDC flyover while being chased by one of the cars they had knocked into at the Mile 3 roundabout.

The pursuing driver, however, decided to abandon the chase when the carjackers pointed their weapons at him and threatened to harm him.

Police are investigating the case after the bank clerk, who sustained minor injuries, lodged a police report the same night.
