Lion dance troupes perform stunts at Army Open Day

SIBU: The Army Open Day here hit a high note at Sibu Town Square last Saturday night when six lion dance troupes performed near-impossible stunts in a competition.

The troupes were from Sibu and Sarikei, with two from secondary schools and one made up of children.

Among the dramatic dance performances were those depicting playful lions making their way up the mountain to seek treasures.

It showed troupe members performing stunts as the lions met obstacles, like coming across a poisonous snake and dancing at the edge of a cliff.

The playful lion overcame all obstacles through stunts to reach the summit where it found treasures.

Lucky draws held in between the performances added colours to the night.

The celebration began with two guests-of-honour Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King and community leader Temenggong Vincent Lau beating the traditional drums with others to kick off the celebration.

Also present was Sibu Army head Brigade Gen Datuk Stephen Mundaw.

In the two-day celebration, the soldiers mingled with the crowd, promoting goodwill and understanding sharing their patriotic spirit in safeguarding the nation.

Apart from an exhibition, a Bintang Kecil song contest was held on Saturday and a mini marathon run yesterday.
