LIMBANG: Aspiring candidates in Limbang parliamentary constituency have yet to collect the nomination papers for the 13th general election (GE13).

Limbang Returning Officer Anyi Ngau said ten sets of the nomination papers priced at RM20 each have been made available for the GE13.

“So far, not a single set of nomination papers have been taken although the papers have been on sale since parliament was dissolved on April 3.

We expect aspiring candidates to start obtaining the papers after the Election Commission (EC) announced the dates for nomination and polling today (yesterday),” he said when contacted yesterday.

Each aspiring candidate is only required to buy one copy of the nomination papers compared to three in previous elections where they had to pay RM60.

This time, candidates are only required to get one copy as there will be no more protest on nomination day.

Once the nomination papers are submitted to the Returning Officer, the name or names of candidate/candidates will be announced.

Anyi who is also the Limbang District Officer meanwhile said a total of 240 election workers are ever ready to carry out their roles at the Election Office Operation Room, located at the District Office here.

He said the number did not include the police personnel but included the respective head of the nomination and polling centres, counting clerks and other workers.

The operation room started operating immediately after the announcement by EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof on the nomination and polling days yesterday.

Nomination day will be on April 20 and polling day will be on May 5.

For Limbang, the nomination centre is Dewan Suarah Limbang while there are 62 polling centres and out of which two are for early voting at Limbang Police Station and the General Operation Force.
