Sponsor flight of first time voters — MoCS

KUCHING: Movement for Change Sarawak (MoCs) is appealing to its supporters to pay for the air tickets of students from Sarawak and Sabah, who would be voting for the first time, to return home to vote in the 13th general election which falls on May 5.

MoCs has been offering this flight sponsorship but over the past few days, requests have been overwhelming with a sudden surge of about 220 applicants requesting for the sponsorship.

Fearing it cannot cope and expecting more to write in, MoCs president Francis Siah hopes those with means sponsor these students to fly home to exercise their democratic rights.

“Let me stress here that MoCS is not seeking donations. We prefer that you purchase the air tickets for the voters online or if that’s inconvenient, contact coordinator of this programme Ronald Sia at [email protected] or 013-3397388. He can purchase the air tickets for voters at your request,” Siah said in his second appeal recently.

He said the NGO advocating change has started vetting applicants to ensure they are genuine registered voters.

“We will also prioritise voters in ‘winnable’ constituencies to send home. But no matter what we do, it will be futile if we can’t get voters home to vote,” Siah said.

MoCS started this programme and is determined to see it through the best way it can.
