Man charged with stealing drill out on bail

KUCHING: A 42-year-old resident of Jalan Rubber Barat was released on bail of RM2,500 with two local sureties after he pleaded not guilty to stealing a drill yesterday.

Mohamad Shamsuri Ali allegedly stole a drill from an individual at Kampung Kudei at about 5.30pm on Feb 11 this year.

He was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code which carries imprisonment of up to seven years, or with fine, or both.

In an unrelated case, a young man was released on bail of RM1,500 with one surety after he pleaded not guilty to committing mischief and damages to a car.

Vun Jan Fait from Kampung Siburan allegedly committed the offence in front of a house also in the same village at about 10am on April 7.

He allegedly damaged the bonnet and the right passenger door of a Perodua Kancil.

The cost of damages was estimated to be RM250.

He was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code, and if convicted, he will be jailed up to two years, or fined or both.

Vun was also charged with causing grievous hurt to the car’s owner at the same time and place.

He was also released on bail of RM3,500 with two local sureties for the charge.

He allegedly used a wooden hoe to hit the owner and caused injuries to his left wrist.

He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code. The section provides for a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment with fine or whipping, or any two of the punishment.
