OUR PROMISE: Muhyiddin showing and explaining the BN manifesto during his speech.

SADONG JAYA: Based on the victory in the last state election, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is confident that Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) will again perform well in this election.

He said that the people in the state had realised that only BN was able to deliver its promises to the people.

“In the last state election for Sarawak, the voters have given their mandate to BN to return to power and we hope that they will continue to do the same in this general election if not better,” he said.

Speaking to reporters at a media conference during his visit here yesterday, Muhyiddin said generally he was happy with the support shown by the people in the state everywhere he went and was hoping that the support would be translated into votes on polling day.

He said the support for BN had been picking up especially in the last few years after the government implemented its transformation plan including giving various government aid to the rakyat such as the 1Malaysia government aid (BR1M).

On the difficulty faced by the oppositions in confirming their candidates in certain seats, he said that the problem was a manifestation that there was a lack of cooperation and understanding among the so-called coalition.

“They have problem with seat allocations because all of them are fighting for more seats. Each wants to contest in as many seats as possible because they believe they can win the election and that whoever among them will get the most seats will become prime minister.

“So we can see now that when one party confirmed its candidates for certain seats, the other parties will complain,” he said.

Meanwhile, when speaking at the meet-the-people session earlier Muhyiddin advised the people not to take promises made by the opposition seriously.

“They can make all kinds of promises including the moon and the sun which they will never be able to deliver. They like to make empty promises. In Selangor for example, the Pakatan Rakyat government promised so many incentives before the election but after they won, they fulfilled none of their promises. All remained empty promises until today,” he said.

He said unlike the opposition, BN had always delivered whatever it had promised and this will also apply to their pledges in BN manifesto for the coming election.

“We don’t simply promise what is impossible because if at the end of the day we are unable to fulfil them, we don’t want people to say that we are bluffing them.

“You all can take my word that whatever we have promised in our manifesto will be fulfilled provided we win the general election. If we lose, you cannot expect us to give whatever we have promised because by then we will all go back and sleep,” he stated.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu who also spoke assured the national leaders that Sarawak would deliver the seats for BN to continue governing the country.

“The people of Sarawak will all give their votes to BN. This is what I dare say,” Jabu, who was representing Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, said.

Among those present at the occasion yesterday were State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Dato Sri Mohammad Asfia Awang Nassar, Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, Second Resource Planning and Environment Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan and other cabinet members.
