KUCHING: Malaysia Sepak Takraw Association deputy president and former Sarawak Sepak Takraw Association (PSS) president  Datuk Paruwadi Musa has congratulated new president Datuk Azman Samaon on his appointment.

Speaking to the Borneo Post yesterday, Paruwadi is confident that his successor and the new PSS executive committee members will do a good job.

Paruwadi was president of PSS from 2010.

Azman was appointed the new president last Saturday at the association’s annual general meeting.

He was elected unopposed as Paruwadi had decided to resign.

After the meeting, Azman admitted that he has big shoes to fill as his predecessor had accomplished a lot for the sport not only in Sarawak but in Malaysia as well.

He is looking forward to the 2013 Sarawak Cup Championship to provide a memorable start to his stint as president.

The tournament is scheduled to be held at Sri Aman in June this year.

“I have a job to do and one part is to continue Paruwadi’s good work and legacy. I also hope to stamp my own mark while I am head of PSS,” Azman said.

He also vowed to reform the state’s delivery system for the sport with the aim to turn Sarawak into a Malaysian sepak takraw powerhouse.

Another priority will be the preparations for Sukma.

“We will be scouting state-wide for fresh and talented players, both male and female, to represent the state for the coming Sukma in 2014 and 2016,” he added.

PSS and all its committee members are currently on a road show to promote the 2013 Sarawak Cup tournament. For Azman, the road show is important as it allows him to go around the state and meet up with all stakeholders involved in sepak takraw.
