Jobless man fined for beating up wife

KUCHING: A jobless man was yesterday fined RM500 in default of three months’ jail, for beating up his wife.

Mohd Isa Abdullah, 26, who caused injuries to his wife, had committed the offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

The offence carries a sentence of a jail term of up to a year, or a fine up to RM2,000, or both.

On March 29 at about 10am, behind a hardware shop at Jalan Lumba Kuda , the accused slapped his wife’s face twice, kicked her on the stomach and waist, hit her head with a helmet and twisted her thighs several times. She suffered pains due to the beatings.

According to her police report, the accused had abused her since February. The incident on March 29 was the last straw and the wife lodged a police report.

Mohd Isa was arrested on April 15 at about 10.20am at Jalan Gersik in Petra Jaya.

In another case, 22-year-old Mohammad Izwan Mosili from Kampung Semariang was fined RM250 in default of two months’ imprisonment for possessing a dangerous weapon.

On April 12 at about 4.20pm at a residential area in Kampung Semariang, Petra Jaya, a crime prevention patrol police team arrested the accused after finding a cock spur in his pant’s pocket and it was immediately seized for case exhibit.

The accused admitted to owning the dangerous weapon, an offence under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958, which provides for a jail term of up to two years and whipping upon conviction.
