MIRI: Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Miri Parliamentary Datuk Sebastian Ting, despite his busy campaigning schedule, took time off yesterday to see for himself the hardship faced by Samson Jabeng Usah at Kampong Tanjung Batu 5.

Both Samson and his wife, Rosita Ulok, had to quit working (respectively as timber camp worker and cleaner), as they have to care for their children, particularly their two sick children.

The two – Maxlaren, 12, the fourth of seven siblings, has a brain tumor while the youngest, Feelmysheel, 6, has a hole-in-the-heart.

Maxlaren will have follow-up medical treatment on May 6 at the Sarawak General Hospital while Feelmysheel will have her next appointment at Miri Hospital on June 17.

“We are very touched by the visit of Datuk Sebastian. Although he did not give any instant financial assistance, his visit showed that he cares and it also reflects the caring Barisan Nasional (BN) government, which the people should continue to support,” Rosita told The Borneo Post.

She said besides incurring high cost of sending the children for treatment, her family too has to pay for four school-going children, including Maxlaren and Feelmysheel .

The eldest, Nellsonie, is working as a mechanic while the second one, Elmyliana, is married and a fulltime housewife.

Meanwhile, Ting hoped the welfare department will expedite the family’s application for financial assistance, which was submitted early this month.

He encouraged them to apply for the Permyjaya Public Housing Project (PPR), as the family is currently staying in a rented house.

Ting also assured help from his family members and relatives should Samson’s family need help when sending Maxlaren for treatment in Kuching. #myvotes13 #ge13
