KUANTAN: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the opposition’s attempt to smear the Barisan Nasional’s (BN) image with all kinds of disparaging statements and fabrications as polling day for the 13th General Election on May 5 approaches, shows that they are getting desperate.

The deputy prime minister was commenting on their resorting to short messaging service (SMS), blogs and social media for their onslaught against the BN.

“I also received certain SMSes, among them claiming we would be transporting 70,000 voters to Johor because the BN is losing, so we needed to bring in outsiders including Bangladeshis,” he told reporters after attending a 1Malaysia people’s gathering in Taman Tas here yesterday.

Muhyiddin said based on information he had received, the opposition was planning more attacks against the BN including creating a tense atmosphere on polling day.

In this regard, he said the present scenario had imposed an additional burden on the security forces and Election Commission (EC) to correct and diffuse the situation.

“The important thing is that the people know how to wisely decipher the information sent to them or in the blogs and social media,” he said.

As to the position of the BN in the election, Muhyiddin was confident they could achieve victory including in states won by the opposition in 2008.

“BN has the fundamentals for such confidence, which is not based on sheer claims,” he stressed.

On the support of the Chinese community for the coalition, he said it could be seen at many levels: “For the rural areas, much better in the last three days and rest assured it will improve further,” he said.

Also present at the gathering were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, Paya Besar BN parliamentary candidate Datuk Abdul Manan Ismail, Sungai Lembing BN state candidate Datuk Md Sohaimi Mohamed Shah, Lepar BN state candidate Mohd Shohaimi Jusoh, and Pancing BN state candidate Datuk Mohd Zaili Besar. — Bernama #myvote13 #ge13
