PENAMPANG: A 59-year-old cleaner was found dead in a room on the fifth floor of a shopping mall here yesterday.

Wong Kui On’s body was found by a colleague in a sitting position on a plastic chair at around 9.30 am.

According to a witness, Janis Slay, 30, she and her husband were working on the fifth floor when they heard a cellphone ringing continuously coming from inside the room.

“The phone kept on ringing but no one answered. Out of curiousity, we decided to take a look and found Wong seated on the chair.

“At first we thought he was sleeping so we tried to wake him up, but there was no response from him,” she said, adding that they immediately informed the management and a team of policemen arrived at the scene a few minutes later.

Meanwhile, district police chief DSP Ratan Kumar Singh, when contacted, said initial police investigation showed there was no foul play.

He said the victim’s body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem and the case has been classified as sudden death.
