KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission yesterday conducted a final briefing for its officials in the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory in its last lap preparations for a smooth conduct of today’s election.

Returning officers and assistant returning officers briefed their staffers behind closed doors before they adjourned to their respective polling centres.

The staffers will discharge their duties as presiding officers, supervisors, polling clerks and guides.

They were shown demonstrations from ballot papers registration, marking of indelible ink on voters’ index finger, issuance of ballot papers and guiding voters to polling streams.

Assistant Returning Officer for Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat Ismail Mohd Yusof said 680 staffers would be on duty at 17 polling centres involving 112 polling streams.

He said ballot boxes, ballot papers and indelible ink have been distributed to 17 presiding officers after they signed a declaration to maintain secrecy.

“Marking of the indelible ink was demonstrated again to ensure there was no negligence by the staffers when marking the ink on voters’ index fnger,” he said in his briefing at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Wangsa Melawati at Jalan genting Kelang, here.

The indelible ink is being used for the first time in this 13th General Election to curb voting twice and cheating. — Bernama
