MARUDI: Barisan Nasional candidate Anyi Ngau won the P220 Baram parliamentary seat with a narrow victory over Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Roland Engan with only a 194-vote majority last night.

Anyi polled 9,182 votes, Engan 8,968 votes while Independent Patrick Sibat Sujang earned 363 votes.

A total of 64 per cent votes were cast, while 242 were spoilt.

Anyi, when met last night, said he was happy with the result and admits that it was a very tough fight between BN and PKR.

“It was a really close and tough fight, but I must say ‘thank you’ to all voters for exercising their rights today.

“I promise to all voters that we will do our best for Baram,” he said.

He also said that all promises made by BN during the campaign period will be fulfilled.

“We will work harder for the betterment of this constituency,” he said.

In the 2008 general election, BN Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan won the seat with a majority of 4,044 votes over Independent Kebing Wan.
