Dompok, VK Liew biggest casualties

PENAMPANG: With the exception of Umno Sabah, Gerakan Sabah and PBRS, the other component parties suffered casualties in the just concluded 13th general election.

Among the casualties were UPKO President Tan Sri Bernard Dompok and LDP President Datuk VK Liew who both lost in their bid to defend their parliamentary seats.

Dompok lost the Penampang parliamentary seat to newcomer Darell Leiking of PKR while VK failed to defend the Sandakan seat from DAP  Wong Tien Fatt.

Umno Sabah delivered all 46 seats it contested while Gerakan Sabah and PBRS delivered the two seats that they contested respectively.

Gerakan contested in the state seats of Tanjung Papat and Elopura while PBRS contested in the Pensiangan parliamentary and the Sook state seats.

PBS which contested in 18 seats won only 10 while UPKO which fielded 10 candidates lost in three of the seats contested.

PBS lost seats it was traditionally strong such as Matunggong, Kiulu, Tamparuli, Kadamaian, Inanam and Api-Api while UPKO failed to get the mandate in Penampang, Moyog and Bingkor.

LDP contested in five seats and delivered all the state seats with the exception of the Sandakan parliamentary seat.

MCA Sabah liaison chief Datuk Edward Khoo failed to defend the Kapayan state seat while its Wanita chief Datuk Agnes Shim who was fielded in Luyang lost to DAP Dr Hiew King Cheu.
