KUALA SELANGOR: The newly elected member of Parliament for Kuala Selangor, Datuk Irmohizam Ibrahim, yesterday questioned the opposition’s move to continuously condemn the Election Commission (EC) and accuse that the electoral process in the country had been unfair and not transparent.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) elected representative said the opposition seemed to have brought up the same issue at every general election since 1999, but they still failed to produce solid evidence to support their allegations.

“If the opposition can question the EC and the whole election process in the country, then why did they accept the results in the states where they won, like Selangor, Penang and Kelantan. Why should they be so selective when the process is the same throughout the country,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Irmohizam, who is also Selangor Youth Council president, said the opposition leaders, members and supporters should accept their loss as fate and those who won should move on to serve the people.

When asked about his plans for his constituency, Irmohizam said he would focus on raising the standard of living of the people, including by ensuring the implementation of Universiti Teknologi Mara Hospital project in Puncak Alam and developing Ijok as a new industrial centre.

In the May 5 polls, Irmohizam defeated Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad of PAS with only 460-vote majority. — Bernama
