Muhyiddin describes new cabinet as solid and dynamic

PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin described the new cabinet announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday as solid and dynamic.

Muhyiddin who thanked the Prime Minister for retaining him as his deputy said the new cabinet, comprising new and experienced leaders, had the ability to carry out the transformation agenda that can improve the economy of the country.

He said the cabinet line up comprised experienced leaders from ‘outside’ the government, business entity, technocrats and representatives from Sabah and Sarawak.

“We also have young and dynamic leaders like Khairy Jamaluddin, Datuk Rahman Dahlan, Datuk Fadillah Yusof. They have shown excellence as MPs. Therefore, I am confident they will assist the Prime Minister in carrying out their respective portfolio,” he told reporters after Najib’s announcement of the new cabinet at Putra Perdana, here, yesterday.

Muhyiddin said he regarded his re-appointment as the Minister of Education and Higher Learning as a bigger responsibility because it involves the entire perspective of education, right from pre-school to higher education.

“This is not only challenging but requires planning and implementation of policies effectively.”

In the new cabinet, the Education Ministry was combined with the Higher Education Ministry.

As for MCA’s representation in the cabinet, Muhyiddin said it would be decided after a
decision by the MCA Supreme Council.

“The Prime Minister will consider once a decision is made by the MCA Supreme Council as to whether there will be a representation or not,” he said.

Speaking of Khairy Jamaluddin as the Youth and Sports Minister, Muhyiddin said he was confident the Rembau MP would understand the aspiration of youths better.

“He will certainly have his own initiatives to attract the younger generation (Gen Y) to be a part of the country’s development,” he said. — Bernama
