PROUD WINNERS: The team from SJK Chung Hua Batu 15 celebrating its award-winning ‘bulb-fixer’ invention at ITEX recently.

KUCHING: SJK Chung Hua Batu 15 has done Sarawak proud again this year by winning three awards through its invention during the recent International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX) organised by Malaysia Invention And Design Society (MINDS) in KLCC.

The school won the accolade for its bulb-fixer invention, which was a green technology device for fixing or removing a threaded energy-saving bulb.

Besides having a holder to hold the bulb safely, it has an anti-breaking device to prevent overturning or bulb-breaking. When joined to an extendable pole, it can perform the job of fixing or removing a bulb from a 20-foot high ceiling without any other aid.

The bulb invention won three awards, namely International Gold Awards for Best Primary School Invention, Malaysia Gold Awards for Best Malaysia Primary School Invention and Special Award from Vietnam for Best Malaysia Primary School Invention.

Participating students were Harvy Ixzy (Year 6), Chai Wan Yii (Year 5) and Adryanna (Year 4), accompanied by their teacher advisors, namely Lily Chin, Dew Kee Bee and headmaster Chai Seng Hiong.

There were 500 entries from Malaysia, of which only five were short-listed for the finals at ITEX. There were 20 participating countries.
