KUCHING: Issuing land titles and carrying out perimeter survey are proof that the state government fully recognises NCR lands of the people in the state.

However, Second Minister for Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said a majority of land owners still do not comprehend the government’s policy, leading them to be confused by certain parties.

“It is clear that the state government recognises the NCR lands as long as it is in line with what has been stated.

“Furthermore, the lands have been surveyed and given titles while the government will also find ways to develop the NCR lands through new concepts,” he said in his speech at the Land and Survey Department (LSD) Innovation and Integrity Day opening ceremony on Wednesday.

Awang Tengah explained that Global Witness’s alleged claims on individuals who arbitrarily sold NCR lands were unfounded.

“Their main intention was purely to tarnish the image of our leaders and it is also clear that it is a political smear,” he said.

In view of this, he urged LSD to further enhance the Communication Unit so that all policies pertaining to the administration of lands can be easily and effectively propagated.

“It is crucial that we strengthen the delivery system in order to clarify information efficiently with the public,” he stressed and suggested a collaboration with strategic partners who were active in cyberspace.

Meanwhile, Land and Survey director Sajeli said that throughout the years of organising the annual LSD Innovation and Integrity Day, around 70 innovative and improvement projects have been produced through the initiative of the Creative and Innovative Groups (KIK).

“For one, a project from 4Quest team of Miri has successfully cleared outstanding premiums of private housings while also guaranteeing property rights to home buyers.

“This also includes efforts to produce and utilise the MySmart Peg which is now in the final stages of placement process.

“On the other hand, the APC Screen developed by our department in Betong at last year’s convention is now completed and ready to be distributed for use at all our district offices to faciliate dialogue sessions with the community to increase effectiveness,” he said.

Sajeli added that LSD has also completed a One Stop Counter at all its district offices and this was part of LSD’s commitment towards excellent customer management.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy State Secretaries Datu Ose Murang and Datu Misnu Taha as well as Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Resource Planning and Environment Datu Sudarsono Osman.
