KUCHING: A Malaysia Airlines aircraft on its way here from Kuala Lumpur yesterday encountered a technical problem mid flight which required the pilot to shut down an engine.

A statement from the national carrier said the pilot of the MH2564 flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching made the decision as a precautionary measure in the interest of passenger safety.

The aircraft landed uneventfully at Kuching International Airport at 12.04pm. All passengers and crew safely disembarked and operations resumed as scheduled.

An investigation is being conducted on the cause of the incident.
