14,000 walk to celebrate Miri City Day

MIRI: Around 14,000 city folk gathered at Miri City Council’s field and took part in a walk past the main streets of the city to celebrate Miri City Day yesterday.

The eighth Miri City Day themed ‘Miri City Go Green’ celebration was launched by Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud with a cake cutting.

Accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib, Mayor Lawrence Lai, state legislative assembly members, councillors and local dignitaries, Taib also launched the ‘Green Expo’ followed by flagging of f the ‘Green Ride’ and ‘Green Walk’.

Sporting Mirians wearing green T-shirts and some blaring horns walked along the main streets showing their support and desire to make Miri a green city.

Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang, Telang Usan and Lambir assemblymen Dennis Ngau Jok and Ripin Lamat were also present.

The official Miri City Day is tomorrow. As it is a working day tomorrow, the celebration was carried forward to yesterday.
