SEMPORNA: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has called on the opposition not to waste time holding illegal rallies to protest the outcome of the 13th general election as it would only be to thedetriment of the people.
He said the opposition should instead focus on developing the states undertheir rule and fulfill the pledges they made to the people in the 13th general election.
He said the opposition should accept the outcome of the election based on the ‘first past the post system’ inscribed in the constitution.
“The system is not only in the constitution, it has also been used by theElection Commission for a long time to determine the government,” he toldreporters at a thanksgiving and appreciation gathering here yesterday, for the Barisan Nasional’s victory at the recent polls.
He said that regardless whether they are from Barisan National or opposition, their tasks as people’s representative is to work for the people. “This is the right time to start working to develop our country,” the Rural and Regional Development Minister said when commenting on certain opposition leaders who were not satisfied with the election results.
