MIRI: The Miri Divisional Gawai celebration dinner, which was
scheduled to be held on May 24, has been postponed to May 25 due to overwhelming requests from the public.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, who is organising chairman, said the new date would enable more members of the public to purchase tickets.

“We are so happy that we’ve received overwhelming support from many people who wish to celebrate Gawai together with us this year.

“Apart from changes in the date, we also made a slight change in the venue, which is going to be held at the Musical Corridor at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club instead of its ballroom,” he said recently, adding that the new space is bigger.

He said there will be 100 tables to accommodate up to 1,000 diners.

“Each table is priced at RM500 and the first 10 tables from the main stage are priced at RM1,000 each,” he said.

The programme for the night includes the Kumang/Keling and Keligit beauty contest.

For tickets, contact organising committee member Caroline Siburat (013-5682378) or Kitty of Rumah Dayak Miri (085-435467).

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang has been invited as guest-of-honour and Assistant Minister of Culture and Heritage Liwan Lagang is also expected to attend.

This year’s event is jointly organised by the Federation of Orang Ulu Associations Sarawak Malaysia (Forum) along with Dayak associations here and the Miri Resident’s Office.
