SRI AMAN: Every longhouse and village should set up its own security committee to curb fires in their respective area.

In making the call, Assistant Minister of Rural Development and Assistant Minister of Housing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis added part of the minor rural project (MRP) allocation given to every Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) should be given to the security committee to enable them to carry out their duties.

“The allocation can be used to buy five units of fire extinguishers for prevention in case there is any fire incident especially in longhouses,” he noted.

Harden who is also the Simanggang assemblyman said this when closing the ‘Summer Camp Programme 2013’ at Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station recently.

He also announced an allocation of RM5,000 minor rural project (MRP) grant to Sri Aman Fire Team’s Welfare and Sports Club.

He also called on villagers who had taken part in the fire prevention briefing to spread their knowledge and information to other villagers.

There had been eight cases of fire incidents in longhouses since January to May this year compared to 17 cases throughout last year, he said.

As such, he said all parties played important roles to spread information on fire prevention methods to longhouses villagers.

Among those present were Fire and Rescue Department Malaysia (State Level) directorNor Hisham Mohammad, Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Services Department head Azhar Mohammad, Sri Aman police district chief’s representative ASP Ang Tuan Pekd and summer camp programme head Awang Said Awang Dollah.
