‘Work together in unity to preserve peace and harmony’

KUALA LUMPUR: All Malaysians should work together to protect and preserve peace and harmony in the country, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

He said as long as everyone was united to work towards peace and harmony, the country would not be affected by extreme and aggressive ideologies that sought to disrupt the peace.

“We should not allow any party to abuse religion for political means because the result of that is hatred and conflict.

“This will destroy unity and the rakyat (people) are the victims of all these,” he said in his Wesak Day message.

Wesak Day, which will be celebrated today, is an important event for Buddhists and Dr Chua said many temples had started to celebrate Wesak since last week to pray for the country’s peace and stability.

“On this meaningful day, we are able to witness our fellow Buddhist friends celebrating Wesak in peace and harmony, and this strongly reflects our multicultural society and respect for the different religions.

“MCA would like to wish all Buddhists a Happy and Meaningful Wesak Day.” — Bernama
