‘One-party BN proposal needs in-depth study’

KUCHING: An in-depth study must be conducted before Basisan Nasional component parties are merged into a single party, opined PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.

In any case, he believed this merger proposal would take “a long time” to be realised as a lot of factors had to be taken into consideration.

“This will take a long time, I think, because we (BN) want to form one team.

“Normally, when we build a team we must take into consideration everyone’s feelings,” he told reporters after launching the 1Malaysia Green 1Malaysia Clean programme at Santubong yesterday.

Abang Johari, who is also Minister of Tourism and Minister of Housing, said this when asked to comment on a proposal by Gerakan acting president Datuk Chang Ko Youn to turn BN into a single party to ensure the coalition’s future and to attract the younger generation.

Abang Johari said that such a proposal had been brought up before but whatever it is it had to be accompanied with research.

“Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said research must be made before the suggestion can be implemented.”

In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had recommended that a special lab be set up to conduct research from all angles, he said.
