Singapore President to visit Brunei today

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: President Tony Tan Keng Yam of Singapore will begin a State Visit to Brunei Darussalam from May 28 to 30, 2013 at the invitation of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Borneo Bulletin reported.

This is President Tan’s first State Visit to Brunei Darussalam, the Singapore High Commission in Brunei Darussalam said in a statement yesterday.

President Tan and Mrs Tony Tan will receive a ceremonial welcome at Istana Nurul Iman, as well as attend a joint audience and a state banquet hosted by His Majesty and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hjh Saleha.

President Tan will also meet with senior members of the royal family and cabinet, including His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.

President Tan will visit the Muara Naval Base and Youth Centre as well as attend a lunch with Bruneian ministers, deputy ministers and permanent secretaries who had studied in Singapore.

In addition, President Tan will meet Singaporeans based in Brunei at a dinner reception and will visit SAF personnel and families based in the Sultanate.

President Tan will be accompanied by Minister of Health, Gan Kim Yong; Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower, Hawazi Daipi; members of Parliament, Alex Yam Ziming and Ong Teng Koon; and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health and National Parks Board.
