SIBU: The prices of pineapples have dropped in recent weeks.
A seller, surnamed Wong, attributed this to the oversupply of the fruits from local farms and those in Sarikei.
“This is the season for pineapples and now, three or four pineapples, depending on the size, only fetch RM10,” he said, adding that at its height, RM10 could only buy two pineapples.
Wong, who sells pineapples at the Sunday Market at Pedada Road, said despite the low prices, sales was not at all rosy.
“Sometimes, we managed to sell about 10 pineapples per day, though the demand fluctuated,” saying his main customers were restaurant operators.
“We have very few walk-in customers who look for pineapples,” he added.
