SOME WAY DOWN: The car landed on a narrow path after skidding off the main road.

MIRI: A villager found a dead man inside a Proton Saga that had apparently veered from the main road, crashing down a slope and halting on a narrow footpath leading towards his longhouse yesterday afternoon.

THE FIRST TO SEE THE CAR: Ningkan Nabau, 77, tells a media group how he found the body in the car.

Ningkan Nabau, 77, from Rumah Brauh Barau, Sungai Entulang, Bakong was on the way to his orchard at about 11am. The orchard is some distance away from the longhouse about 40 km from Miri city.

“I was about to harvest some of the bananas when I spotted ‘something’ a distance away from where I was standing,” Ningkan recalled.

Met by The Borneo Post at the scene yesterday, he recalled: “I ran towards the longhouse and told the village chief what I found and he called the police.”

The village chief and several longhouse folk rushed to the scene.

“I recognised the car and knew the deceased Aloi, 68, as one of those residing in our longhouse,” said Tuai Rumah Brauh.

According to sources, the deceased had been missing since June 1.

A traffic police team arrived at the scene at about 2pm and the body was sent to Miri Hospital for post mortem.
