LIMBANG: The Fire and Rescue Department in Limbang conducted a basic in-the-water rescue training programme for its officers and men to hone their skills and level of preparedness for such emergencies.

The programme was conducted by chief trainer Rary Binjie and assisted by Mohd Hafizie Azley Abdul Wahab at Limbang swimming pool.

According to Limbang Zone chief, Anuar Shazat Merdzuki, such programme is vital to keep his men combat-ready to face any underwater search and rescue operation under the jurisdiction of the zone covering Limbang and Lawas
districts.

“Such a programme will raise the skills and knowledge needed in facing emergencies in SAR operations,” he said.

Also present at the function were Limbang Fire Station chief Awang Mohamad Farbu Abdul Hamid and his Lawas counterpart Zaki Husin.

The module of the training programme included safety in SAR operations to protect both rescuer and victim in water in an emergency. The other aspects included CPR, correct usage of equipment and rescue techniques.
