Police deport Taiwanese, Chinese scammers

KUCHING: All the 55 Taiwanese involved in the ‘Macau Scam’ were deported yesterday while the 29 Chinese from the Republic of China will be deported on Monday.

As early as 5am this morning, 25 Taiwanese were sent to Kuching International Airport (KIA) to take the first flight out to Kuala Lumpur International Airport before taking another flight back to Taipei.

The remaining 30 would take a night flight out via the same route.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani told The Borneo Post that these 55 Taiwanese would have reached Taiwan already yesterday.

Meanwhile, all of their 29 accomplices from China would be sent back to Beijing via Kuala Lumpur next Monday.

“Bukit Aman Police headquarters have made the arrangement with the Taiwanese and Chinese authorities to send them back,” said Acryl.

He said the passports of these 84 foreign nationals had been nullified by their respective countries and they had been issued one-week passports for their travel.

“They have not committed any offence here yet. They were only using Kuching as their base to scam people in their own countries — Taiwan and China.

“Because of that, we are deporting them back to their respective countries so that they could be legally dealt with in their own countries,” said Acryl.

He added that all expenses of deportation were borne by their respective countries.

Police had on May 9, with the cooperation of counterparts in Taiwan and China, crippled the syndicate that was believed to have netted more than RM4 billion through the scam.

Arrests were made following raids at two locations in here.

Also seized during the raids were 113 telephones, 11 laptops, two desktop computers, modems, routers, handphones and other electronic gadgets.
