KUCHING: A cake-maker charged with statutory rape for allegedly having sex with a girl half his age was yesterday remanded until June 19 for further investigation.
The 32-year-old man from Jalan Bampfylde appeared before a magistrates’ court here which ordered him to be remanded for seven days from the date of his arrest.
The complainant lodged a police report about 11am on June 11 saying that the suspect had raped her 15-year-old daughter.
Initial investigation revealed that the girl had run away to be with the suspect and failed to return home since. This prompted the girl’s parents to lodge a police report.
The suspect was arrested at a house in Jalan Bampfylde about 9am on June 12.
