Sibu swimmer bags two gold in 37th SEA junior swim meet

SIBU: Local swimmer Nee Gui Ping bagged two gold medals and a bronze medal at the recent 37th SEA Age-group Swimming Championship held in Brunei.

The 13-year-old student of SMK Chung Hua, was the sole Sibu swimmer to represent Malaysia at the swimming meet which was also participated by state’s national swimmers Welson Sim, Erika Kong and Vernon Lee.

“It was Nee’s first participation at such a big event and his achievements made the state and the country proud,” Sibu Amateur Swimming Association deputy chairman, Oliver Kuo told a press conference yesterday.

Nee took three events out of four in the game under boys’ 11 – 12 years old category and won the gold medal in 100m Butterfly with his personal best time.

Nee who was also present at the press conference together with his trainer Hii Hiong Chiong won the other gold in 200m Butterfly while the bronze came from 50m Butterfly.
