CAUGHT: Police and villagers inspect the crocodile’s belly content.

MIRI: A 12-foot long male crocodile that was suspected to have killed a 26-year-old lumberjack on May 25 at Sungai Karap, Bakong, was caught yesterday – with the help of two shamans (bomohs).

Sergeant Major Nuri Uban of Beluru, Bakong Police Station, when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday, said the male reptile was believed to be the suspected killer of Irwanshah Radin, a Melanau from Mukah.

Irwanshah had gone to the riverbank to answer the call of nature on May 25 when the crocodile attacked him.

“The two shamans had put up traps (baits) along the riverbank (Sungai Karap) on Thursday evening at about 5pm … and this (Friday) morning at about 6am the reptile had eaten two of the baits,” said Nuri.

The shamans had called the police for assistance to pull the reptile onto the riverbank.

“The reptile was so strong and it fought fearlessly … and we had to gun it down,” Nuri added.

They later cut open the reptile’s belly to check for human parts.

However, they only discovered human hair inside the reptile’s belly and no human parts.

“We will check the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), of the hair to determine whether it matches that of our missing victim,” Nuri stated.
