MIRI: Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club expects to raise RM50,000 through its annual charity food carnival which enters its 8th edition this year.

Its marketing director Rebecca Wong said the food fair with the theme ‘Rainbows of Hope’ will be held from 8.30am to 1pm on June 30.

“Like before, its main objective is to raise funds for the needy children and less fortunate folk as well as charitable organisations. “Part of the funds would be channeled to four local charitable bodies here namely Community based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK), Persatuan Penyayang Kanak-Kanak, MRC Sunflower Centre Miri and Miri Autistic Association,” she told the media during a press conference at the club yesterday.

“There will be more than 50 food items available for sale including Pan Fried Lamb with Honey Glaze, Lamb Kebab, Ice Kacang, Sarawak Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Satay, varieties of Dim Sum, cakes, pizza and assorted sushi,” she said.

The organiser encouraged the public to bring own bags and containers as the food stalls would not be providing any plastic bags on the day in response to the call to make Miri a Green City. Apart from the food fair, there will also be the ‘Reel Big Fish’ fishing contest.

“Due to the overwhelming response to the competition in the past three years, we have allocated a bigger area this year.

“We hope to get at least 100 participants. The entrance fee is RM20 each,” Wong said.

The competition will be held around the Musical Corridor 3 from 9am until 12 noon.

The champion will bring home a hamper worth RM100 while a hamper worth RM80 awaits the first runner-up. The second runner-up would bring home a hamper worth RM60. They will also receive certificate of participation each.

Apart from that, the organiser will have the children’s corner providing fun games for children below 12 years old.

According to the organiser, Miri mayor Lawrence Lai and the managing director of Woodman Group of Companies, Dato Sri KK Law are expected to witness the opening of the event.

Members of the public are urged to support the food fair and coupons priced at RM20 per booklet are available at the club.
