BRINGING RELIEF: The clothing donated by the public brings much joy to the victims.

SIBU: The Divisional Health Office here has declared the facilities at the temporary shelter at SK Lakis as good after carrying out a sanitary survey there.

State health director Datu Dr Zulkifli Jantan told The Borneo Post that they are sufficient to cater for the fire victims temporarily putting up there.

Advisor to Sibu Disaster Relief Committee Dr Annuar Rapaee, who is a UK-trained cardiologist, said a sick bay had been set up as a precautionary measure.

“This temporary facility is manned by officers from Divisional Health Office for those who fall ill.

“Those down with cough and flu are advised to visit the sick bay,” Dr Annuar said.

Committee chairman Sim Kok Kee said they had briefed them on hygiene and cleanliness procedures.

Asked if there were sufficient toilets there, he said they would provide more mobile toilets if the need arose.

“But the important thing is that the dwellers there need to proactively take measures to ensure their well-being,” he said.

Sim, who is Sibu Resident, however, noted the limited number of bathrooms but reckoned it would not be much of a problem as the place was only a temporary shelter.

Asked on report that there may be a need for more milk powder for young children, he said this would be met by donations from the public as they not only contributed other necessities but also baby formula.

Meanwhile, Dr Annuar disclosed that 112 victims from 23 families were still putting up there, and donations, including clothing, continued to pour in.
