KUCHING: A senior citizen was duped of her life savings by a couple offering to help her apply for monthly government financial aid.

The 63-year-old housewife from Everbright Jaya told police she was approached outside her house by a man and a woman on Monday morning.

The couple claimed to be helping senior citizens like her apply for RM650 in monthly financial aid from the government.

They brought her to a bank near Jalan Lapangan Terbang to open an account for the money to be deposited in.

The housewife claimed that while at the bank, she was put under a spell during which she emptied her savings account of RM13,000 as well as RM10,000 from her fixed deposit account.

After handing over the cash to the couple, she was sent back to her house where she later realised what had happened.

Police are investigating after a report was lodged later in the day.
