PENAMPANG: Penampang member of parliament Darell Leiking yesterday called on the police here to make a prompt investigation into the cause of a car explosion near a Public Bank Berhad branch in Donggongon two days ago.
Leiking also thanked the police and authorities for their quick action but he hoped that they would reveal the cause of the incident and ensure that it will not occur again in the future.
In making the call, he said that locals in the district were getting restless as there were rumours spreading around Donggongon alleging that criminal elements were involved in the explosion.
“It is possible that an engine malfunction was the cause of the car explosion but if that was the case, why was a robotic bomb disposal device dispatched to the scene that night?” Leiking questioned.
He also stressed that the authorities must quickly provide clarification on the issue as the people would want to know the outcome of the investigation as it involved public security.
“As far as I am told, the incident happened at 9.30pm near the Megalong shopping complex. Fortunately, no one was hurt by the explosion, considering that some shoppers parked their cars near the scene,” he said.
