Water disruption at SGH due to technical fault

KUCHING: The water supply interruption at Sarawak General Hospital on Tuesday night which lasted for about two hours was due to technical fault, says Assistant Minister of Public Health Dr Jerip Susil.

He said that the taps from level eight downwards were all dry after the gravity feed tank at the topmost level of the building became empty.

“Apparently the pump driving water from the storage tank to level nine was non-functional,” he said, adding that supply was fully restored about 10pm.

Dr Jerip, who is Bengoh assemblyman, ascertained that the water disruption was due to technical fault and nothing to do with sabotage or whatsoever.

He said this when asked to comment on queries from the public that the water disruption had to some extent caused great inconveniences to patients, visitors and hospital staff alike.

“I turned on one of the taps to wash my hands but no water came out,” a member of the public related to this newspaper yesterday.
