CULPRIT AT LARGE: The road to Kuala Baram is shrouded in smoke from the bush fire.

STOP IT: Fire is seen ravaging vegetation along the road to Kuala Baram.

MIRI: Fires are burning vegetations along Kuala Baram road even though stern warning has been given by the authority concerned to stop any open burning activities which are contributing to the haze.

Firemen are seen working round-the-clock to control the fire to prevent it from spreading.

A community leader who did not want to be identified, wanted the authority concerned to monitor the burning activities to ensure people comply with the ‘no open burning’ warning.

“Firemen are working hard to control the bush fire but those responsible for starting the fire are still out there, probably laughing,” he said when met yesterday.

Miri MP Dr Michael Teo, meanwhile wanted the authority to slap stiffer penalty on the culprits (if they could be found) for starting the fire.

He said many elderly people including those with a history of respiratory illness were suffering because of the hazy atmosphere.
