KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) may scale down activities at the soon-to-be-held Kuching Festival Fair 2013 if the haze exceeds the safety level.

Mayor Datuk James Chan said they would continue to monitor the haze situation.

“Currently, Kuching seems to be very safe from the haze, plus we have rains these days. So we should be okay.

“However, we will monitor the haze situation and if it worsens, we may scale down the activities at the festival fair for people’s safety,” he told the press after chairing the MBKS full council meeting yesterday.

Various activities had been lined up for the fair from July 12 to August 4.

The ever-popular food fair will continue to whet the appetites of both locals and visitors, with 190 stalls selling a variety of local food, drinks and international cuisines.

As for the trade fair, it has 200 outdoor and indoor booths featuring motor firms, banks, financial institutions, household appliances, property developers, computer and information technology companies, machinery, healthcare, telecommunication, furniture, building and interior design materials and many more.

During the night, local artistes, performers and dancers will perform a wide variety of art, cultural and entertainment activities at the open stage of the fair.

For nature enthusiasts, the garden show demonstrates the bond between horticulture and the environment and inspires viewers to beautify their homes and community through skilful design and appropriate plant materials.

Other activities to be held during the fair include concert of traditional oriental music by local Chinese orchestras on August 3 at the MBKS auditorium.

There will be also Yuan Ji dance performance on July 13 at the state hockey stadium.

The folk dance display, which is a mass demonstration of various ethnic dances, will be held on July 21 at the same venue.

The brass band display will be held at the Jubilee Ground on July 28. Martial arts performance will be one of the highlights during the fair.

Just like previous years, sports carnival like Sports Toto 3 on 3 basketball jamboree will be at held at MBKS foyer on Aug 3; rugby tournament at Song Kheng Hai rugby field on July 6 and Aug 24, as well as football tournament, hockey tournament and horse riding will be included in the sports activity list.
