KOTA KINABALU: Three men were jailed for four years by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for misappropriating a credit card belonging to a woman.

Magistrate Edward Paul also imposed one stroke of the cane on Asmali Mohamad, 29, Ajiree Awang Aji, 19, and Rayner Edmund, 30.

On the first charge, the trio pleaded guilty to swiping the victim’s UOB Bank credit card at a handphone shop in Centre Point on June 20 this year to buy two smart phones worth RM3,784.

On the second charge, the trio again admitted to making a second credit card transaction on the same day, at the same handphone shop for a Samsung Galaxy S4 smart phone worth RM2,019.

The facts of the case revealed that the victim had misplaced the credit card at a gas station which was eventually picked up by the trio for their own use.

The offences were framed under Section 403 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum five years’ jail and whipping, liable to a fine, upon conviction.

In an unrelated case, Edward jailed Mitchell Greg George, 23, for ten months for stealing RM150 and USD105.

Mitchell pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum ten years’ jail on conviction.

The accused was on housekeeping duty when he stole the money from a guest room at a hotel in Tanjung Aru on June 23 this year.

Inspector Azaman Hamat prosecuted both cases.
